If you are one of the few that will actually follow these instructions on ones way to the “top” whatever that may be and in the process avoids a mental breakdown, financial and ruin of one’s reputation and finances, arrest and imprisonment, congratulations. A safer route and far more entertaining and less risky would be for the “climber” to purchase a copy of Shepherd Mead’s How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying: The Dastard's Guide to Fame and Fortune, only after reading Lisa Birnbach’s The Official Preppy Handbook. Both are safer, more fun and more realistic. With that said, the thought has occurred to me that this little “bible” might be the big joke on the reader via a keen piece of satirical writing.

This book was enlightening regarding social climbing. I had an overall negative view of social climbing, but as the book mentions, when you think of it, most people above a certain level are doing to a small extent, or wishing they could. My views have moderated. Social climbing is after all a symbiotic relationship: someone has money and a house to show off and ego to be stroked, and someone else flatters and entertains that person and in exchange gets to spend a wonderful weekend in style in an exclusive vacation home. It would not work if everyone did not get something back. This lifestyle would not be my choice, and I still have some reservations about extreme measures such as breaking relationships, stealing, etc. which hurt people, but realize now most social climbing is probably neutral. So it’s like people, complex.Whether you like this book or not depends on your expectations for it. If you are looking for a bullet point instruction book that says where to meet rich people, how to charm them and get them to marry you, etc., you may be somewhat disappointed by the tone of the book. It has some of that, but is so much more. This book touches more on the overall concept, the spirit of social climbing, what goes on in the minds of social climbers. The subtle satire was fascinating. At times, I was wondering if a particular statement was real or an inside joke, which made every page interesting. And a major strength of this book is that you have an author who is a true insider from birth, not someone from the outside who is trying to make it or made it recently.

Thinking about this book makes me smile, then start to laugh.It's very witty, satirical, and filled with crass humor. To be honest, I found it paired nicely with the content of the book (myself, a wannabe social climber, and a lot of the wealthy I know, have the same sense of humor). I literally was laughing out loud in bed while reading this.Aside from that, there are great tips, advice, and affirmations throughout. Even with the humor, if you read between the line there are words of wisdom.It gives advice on how to approach different events, how to market yourself on social media, how to act around certain people, and of course how to move up in the ranks. I wish there was more on where to meet certain people (the author made two suggestions that were completely crazy, but brilliant. I would've loved to hear more unique ideas).I'd recommend (and I did recommend)!

While I disagree with the contents and premises suggested by the author(s), this book seemingly offers great insight into a world that few will ever be a part of. The linguistic judo that readers will learn may indeed prove to be invaluable, however the context in which many scenarios are conveyed seem very troublesome. Perhaps, at the highest of social levels with those not born into privilege, it is the human condition to live a life of compromised ethical integrity.The book had it's fair share of analogy and exaggerated expressions to get a point across, but I wonder if some readers who practice the lessons within will understand the differences.I would challenge readers to figure out a way to execute these lessons without lying, without malice, and without building a false life. That is the only real problem I had with this book.It really makes one feel that in order to begin social climbing the way as instructed, you must first become scum of the earth first with nothing to lose. Then, you must remain that way... like everyone else who is criticized in power.Nevertheless, I highly recommend it. At the very least, you will gain a solid understanding on how particular groups in society's upper class may very well operate.

This book has an identity crisis...is it "real" or is it supposed to be a total joke. It's not really that funny, but sort of can be. Meh.

I have been involved in high-tech for over 25 years, most of this was software which often included software licensing. I was involved in licensing agreements of and for software. I am not a lawyer but differently learned a few things over the years. One is you really need to be careful with how and what the agreement says. Even a poor agreement can come back to bite you. On page 16 in the book lists common licensing agreements. I was involved in practically every type. If you are new to software agreements or looking for a good refresher, I would highly recommend the book. If you use code or even applications that contain open source code be sure to review chapter 3 on Open Source Licensing. We were getting ready ship a major software project/application when I discovered that one of the developers had included some open source code at the last minute. The developer thought it was OK, but there were potential licensing issues. The software shipment had that feature removed, and engineering had to put together a replacement. The book is only about 49 pages, but well worth the read.

There is so MUCH information on the internet about software licensing, it can become overwhelming to understand which route to take. Even worse, there is so MUCH "misinformation" on the internet. If you read all of the different terms and all of the jargon associated with them, your head will be sore!Mike (the Author) knows all of the ends and outs as that is his job. He clearly lays out all of the different terms in this easy to follow handbook. No need to second guess which route you should take after following his knowledge.Right off the bat, we learned something that could directly impact us when offering "white label rights" to some in-house created software.This is a great read and really clears up all of the different terms and levels of software licensing.We received this as a gift and did not have to pay for it. We are in no way compensated by providing this review.
