I bought four of these for Christmas, for each family member. We were able to say the Christmas prayer together as well as some others since. Of course not, but I consider them a vehicle, an arrow toward a closer, more loving yet respectful, relationship to my Father in heaven.It is worthy of note also that sometimes when you don't know how to pray in a particular situation, what to say, where to start, these prayers help you to focus, to meditate, to come up with words of your own.The small catechism, which I have separately, is woven throughout the book, which is helpful and timely. I am newly Lutheran of the Missouri Synod but think these prayers, this book, would be good and meaningful for anyone who wants to develop a closer relationship to God.
This book is full of wonderful prayers that would be suitable for many different faiths, not just Lutherans. This book will help provide inspiration for your prayers and for many who struggle with knowing how to pray, it is helpful. There are prayers for many occasions, concerns, causes, and life events.This would make a great gift for those being confirmed into the Lutheran faith as well.
I didn't grow up in a religious household, but I have really been exploring my faith the past handful of years. I had no idea this book existed until I was looking for a copy of the Lutheran Service Book to have at home and I came across this little gem. The description sounded awesome so I ordered it. It's been a joy to read through and utilize this book the past few weeks I've had it. It's a must have for every Lutheran person/family, or any religious person/family for that matter. I'd highly recommend it!
Perhaps I am not the intended audience of this book. This edition waxes a little to the "fluffy" side and leaves out many occasions where prayer is desired for me and my family. Overall, it has been added to my daily reading and serves as a solid prayer book daily devotions with my two young children. A great option for older Christians.
Martin Luther always seems to be able to touch my heart with his thoughts about his beliefs and this is one of the best books written about enhancing a prayer life and finding the "right" thing to say in your conversations with God. Covers many of life's ups and downs, life's many special occurrences, and it's sad times as well. I highly recommend this book for all Christians as they are God centered with a wonderfully vast selection of different prayers.
Although I have my differences with the Missouri Synod, from whose publishing house this book issues, I have absolutely no complaints about this book and I keep it near my bed for daily devotions. The prayers are simple but eloquent, and there is a good variety of them both for various days of the week and the year and also for special occasions or times of trouble. It is a good, basic prayer book that every Lutheran should have, and it is attractive to look at as well, which is always a plus.
I love this companion book to my Lutheran collections. Sometimes when life is too painful it's hard to know "how" to pray, especially when others need our prayers. God is not a "buddy" I carry around in my pocket. How we approach and pray to the "Almighty" is important. The prayers themselves have been a great comfort to me as well, as I am reminded of how very much my Heavenly Farher loves all His children.
I myself am a Lutheran and I thought that this would be a unique buy to add to collection of religious books. I really, really like this book. It has a prayer for almost any life/important occasion/event. I would recommend this book really to anyone who is looking to increase their prayer scope. I also like the quality of the book, I like it's size and I like the nice ribbon bookmark incorporated into the book. I also like that it had daily prayers. It was also an affordable price, I have given these as gifts to friends and family and they love it. A great buy.
