I agree, sadly if we want to prevent animal abuse, pain and suffering euthanasia is needed in today's world. People that fight against euthanasia are not able to deal with reality and are projecting their believes and fears of death into the animals. Like it or not "No kill shelters" are being part of abuse, pain and unnecessary suffering, because the animals they turn away, when they are full, most of the animals get abandoned and abused. Thank you for writing this great book. I also, very much agree with the article in the link below.[...]

I think the thing that I appreciate most about this manual is the language that its written in. It is so easy to comprehend and uses realistic examples to inform readers as to the correct tools and routes of administration when faced with this often very difficult and sometimes dangerous task. After reading the manual myself we've now implemented it into our shelters curriculum for euthanasia training as well as made it required reading for all staff involved in the process. Thank-you Dr. Rhoades for sharing your knowlege, skill and compassion with all of us in animal welfare.

Dr. Rhoades has written a comprehensive, professional, well-organized manual for veterinarians, euthanasia technicians, shelter personnel, and those who work with animals. She considers the humane aspects, legal restrictions, personal attitudes, historical background and, and the varied methods available for many species of animals. Though sodium pentobarbital is the only legal method in New Jersey, it is important for my students to have the knowledge of all methods for comparison, understanding, and possible work elsewhere.

Instead of putting out "how to murder someone" manuals, the HSUS should be putting out manuals that teach readers how to STOP THE KILLING of healthy animals in so called "shelters". The HSUS are supposed to be "humane animal lovers".First, you arent showing much love for someone when you put out manuals on how to murder them. Secondly, the term "humane euthanasia" to decribe the murder of healthy animals, is an oxymoron. Kind of like "Holy War". There's nothing "Holy" about war, and there is nothing "Humane" about murdering a healthy living soul. In fact there is nothing more cruel than to take someone's precious life away from them. Indeed, who among us would consider it "humane" if someone kidnapped us off of the streets and murdered us, because we lived in a bad neighborhood, and because they decided to play God and tell us whether we deserved to live or not?NOBODY would consider that nonsense to be "Humane". Let me say it again in capital letters: KILLING HEALTHY LIVING BEINGS IS NOT HUMANE! When done to humans, it is, in fact, called "murder". Is murdering a healthy person a "humane" act of kindness, if you made sure that they didn't suffer too much? Only a psychopath would think so: "It's ok that I killed my girlfriend, your honor. After all, I slipped a painless poison pill into her drink....she didnt suffer....thus it was ok that I ended her life. Besides, we live in a horrible neighborhood...my girlfriend was probably going to end up shot to death or raped, so I saved her pain and suffering by murdering her." Such thinking is insane, yet such thinking is exactly what we apply in the case of animals being murdered, and because of our human animal egotism, selfishness and arrogance, we allow to be done to other animals, what we would be outraged at, if it were done to US or to someone WE loved.If it walks like it, talks like it and kills like it, call it what it is:Hypocrisy.Murder.So, instead of this "how to kill" manual, spend your hard earned money on something worthwhile..something that is CONSTRUCTIVE, not destructive. Instead of this murder manual, I highly recommend the book "REDEMPTION" by Nathan J. Winograd. Mr Winograd's book shows us how to become a NO-KILL nation. EVERY ANIMAL SHELTER, AND EVERY COMMUNITY CAN BECOME NO-KILL IF THEY TRULY WANT TO. Mr Winograd shows us how to do so in this book and his success in making shelters No-Kill is irrefutable proof that it CAN be done. Also, in his book "REDEMPTION", Mr Winograd talks about the past track record of such "animal loving" groups as the HSUS, the ASPCA and PETA. These groups are not so "loving" when it comes to saving cats and dogs from concentration camps (kill shelters), as you will learn, if you read his book. Healthy cats and dogs arent being murdered because "there arent enough homes" for them. Cats and dogs are being murdered because of bureaucratic B.S.....pure politics from the HSUS, the ASPCA, PETA, and other groups who either have or still do support murdering healthy cats and dogs. It is time to end the killing. Knowledge is power. Please, read "REDEMPTION" by Nathan J. Winograd, and after doing so, contact your local animal "shelter", Mayor, Governor, etc and tell them to become NO-KILL, and send them a copy of Mr Winograd's book so that they can become educated on how to stop this senseless, unnecessary murder of beautiful cats and dogs in "shelters". NO-KILL CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED. IT ALREADY HAS IN EVERY COMMUNITY THAT HAS WANTED TO ACCOMPLISH IT BAD ENOUGH TO WORK FOR IT. We owe cats and dogs everywhere nothing less, seeing as how they offer us unconditional love, while sharing their lives with us, their hearts with us, and their souls with us. Anyone out there who still thinks that murdering healthy cats and dogs is 'kind' or 'humane'?Would you like to back up your words with actions, and allow someone to inject you with a deadly poison?After all, you'll be treated 'kindly' and 'humanely', and who wouldnt jump at that opportunity, right?Do a search online for "Nathan Winograd official website", when you get there, click on "BLOG" and check out "THE TRUTH ABOUT THE HSUS."The inhumane society of America are a disgraceful group.
